For those who were absent, today we went to the Library.  If you missed class, you will need to renew your book as soon as possible.  If the last time you renewed your book was when we went to the library as a class, you will be late.

Citation Machine is an excellent resource for creating MLA style citations necessary for your paper.

Here is an Example of what my research page looks like.

We had 15 minutes of independent reading and then we responded to the following questions:

What is the title of the book you are reading? What are some things you are questioning about the book at this point? What are some inferences you have made about the book so far, and what evidence are you using to back that up?  What is the main conflict, and how has the author been developing over time?

GUYS! PLAN PREP TODAY! WOOT WOOT!

Don't forget to bring a book to class tomorrow! And don't forget about the PLAN test on Tuesday!

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

9/11/2013

Scholar start: In my grandparents time, they would ask "Where were you when they attacked Pearl Harbor?"  In my parents time, they would ask, "Where were you when JFK was shot?"  In my time, I have been asked, "Where were you on 9/11?"  What major American tragedy do you think that you will face in your time?

Today we talked about the proper way to annotate; This is different from the way I showed in class, but it is one terrific way! If you are annotating correctly, it will help you figure out the meaning of a poem.

I asked 6th period to write a second reaction to the poem, after we had reviewed it a second time.

Remember, 9/12/2013 we will be in the Library during my class for PLAN prep! I know you guys will knock the PLAN test out of the park!

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

9/10/2013: The Horses.

Today we are going to continue to talk about symbolism and allegory.  We will read, annotate, and comment on a poem called The Horses.

This should be an entry in your composition book!
