Today we will be reading a poem by Rupert Brooke, a British Poet. Like "Flanders Fields," this poem was written early on in the war.
V. The Soldier
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
This Friday is my GSA audition! I'm so excited about finally being able to show off everything I've worked hard to prepare, but I can't help but be nervous. I'm auditioning for vocal music and I have everything prepare. I have a good piece for my voice, I've been practicing sight reading, and also practicing my interview questions. I really hope that I get in. It would be pretty disappointing to not make it after all this work...
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for are self-portrait project in photography because I get to do my life long dream of copying the famous superman pose of him taking off his citizen clothes and in to his superman clothes. I am like Oh My Gosh because I love superman he is the best super hero ever.

DeleteIf today they discovered that strawberries were the second smartest things alive I think we would get an ear full on how mad they were that we kept eating them. Secondly, they would try to create a surplus of strawberries and have a strawberry army and they would try to take over the world.
ReplyDeleteOurfirst baseball game is today and i am super pumpeddddddd! We boutta be 1 and 0 and we gon ball today. #ToHype #BallOut
ReplyDeleteIf strawberries were the second smartest thing on the planet, it would not change human life much at all. Everyone would still probably eat them. It would definitely not change my life cause first of all I do not associate with strawberries that much and when I do, I just eat them.
ReplyDeleteI watched as the cave floor was once again stained red drop by drop by the blood of my comrades. Sitting helplessly as as he ripped my best man in half, savoring the taste of his internals in his tongue. The cyclops licked my men’s blood off his lips and smiled at us like this were no more than a friendly dinner amongst chums. His demonic eye slanted sideways to his club then back to us, possibly considering to kill us now and get it over with, or sending us a message to expect our doom and cower before him. He towered to his full height and grabbed his club from the wooden table. Stalking over to us he drunkardly yanked his trousers up and glared at us for a moment and grunted, possibly considering taking a snack with him to his sheep pastures. Oh, how I wish he would have just compiled with the rules set by Zeus, then we would not be in this situation!
ReplyDeleteArchery goes to State in 5 days!!! Monday night at 7 pm at the Louisville Convention Center; I can't wait but am still nervous. There will probably be cameras around every year. Last year the couch's son had a camera in his face the whole time he was shooting. We are practicing four days this week and my fingers are so numb with pain I can hardly pull back my bow. Yesterday at practice I put band aids on my fingers; the result was happy fingers and 5 tens!!!!!! I just hope that they allow band aids at State because my fingers will still be hurting.
ReplyDeleteim hoping we have our softball game today! our field is a mess though. it makes me mad cause we have this problem every year. we have to cancel so many home games because our field sucks. we play nelson county friday! woop-woop! we're about to kick some butt! (i hope) lets hope the weather isn't too cold though, i don't want to freeze. speaking of weather, this weather is making me mad. its 75 and sunny one day and 30 degrees and snowy the next.. what the heck.
ReplyDeleteIt's getting close to that time of the year now. The time when I can finally go out and comfortably go out and go looking for the Irrawaddy dolphins. I can not wait until I finally see my first Irrawaddy breaching the surface. Most people quickly go mad when they see one in its full magnificence and glory but my eyes are accustomed to the wonder that is the Irrawaddy. Maybe I will go mad when I see it but that won't be a bad thing. If I do, then I will always see an Irrawaddy everywhere. This would actually be the greatest gift ever. Hopefully the Irrawaddies drive me mad.
ReplyDeleteGSA is coming up so soon. Im not nervous because I know im gonna get in because everyone keeps telling me my audition is good. Everyones is Fri. or Sat. so I hope most of us get in. My audition is next week at centre on the 22nd so i get an extra week to practice. I feel like I could audition tomorrow and get in but it's good I get an extra week to perform even better.
ReplyDeleteGSA auditions are this weekend! I'm really not as nervous as I thought I would be. We've prepared so much with voice lessons, workshops, and the GSA recital last weekend. The only thing I'm a little iffy about is the sight singing because I just started learning how to do that about a month ago. However, at the recital apparently I got all the pitches right, but I forgot about rhythm, which is what I've been working on all week. It seems like all teachers have decided to give homework and papers this week. I'd love to have an afternoon to just practice, but I don't see that happening. Oh well, I'm ready even though a little more practice would be great.
ReplyDeleteOur softball games keep getting canceled due to this unnecessary cold and rain. I'm tired of it, and I want to play. Friday is our first district game and according to Nelson County "we're going to get killed." We'll see Friday so be there.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to write about how this scholar start scenario was probably made up in ten minutes and this picture kinda creepy and yea
ReplyDeleteI believe that Mother Nature is bipolar, tuesday it was 65 degrees and beautiful! It was just a tease for the summer, but then yesterday it was back to freezing and rainy. Mother Nature needs to make up her mind!
ReplyDeleteIt feels really weird writing a free write on Thursday since it has been on Friday. So I am just going to not going to answer the strawberry question because I don't want think about not being smart. So I have nothing to write today.
ReplyDeleteI just want to give a huge to all the students auditioning for GSA! We have worked hard for this audition and these students deserve encouragement and good vibes as they go and audition this weekend and next weekend.
ReplyDeleteNext, I really don't know how I would feel if strawberries became the second smartest thing. I mean, I literally had strawberries for breakfast. The saying "you are what you eat" could really mean something here. I think I will eat them everyday so I could become the smarter.

ReplyDeleteTomorrow I will be auditioning for GSA and to say the least it's kind of freaking me out. I will have to perform in front of judges though I do not know how many and perform my song then sight-sing, perform pitch memory, and then answer questions in an interview. I'm hoping that I perform well and give chosen for this great opportunity.
ReplyDeleteFirst track meet Saturday, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. Its definitely exciting to try something different, but a little nerve wracking.
ReplyDeleteI just want to write about how great it is when the internet doesn't want to work until the freaking timer goes off! THANKS OBAMA!
ReplyDeleteYesterday, I wasn't at school. I woke up at 8:30 about to have a heart attack due to being late. I stayed home all day, watching Jerry Springer and Maury. That was the highlight of my day.
ReplyDeleteat baseball practice yesterday we weight lifted, did iron crosses which we had to restart because this kid kept putting his feet down and it sucked. then we went to the gym and i ran.
ReplyDeleteIf strawberries were the smartest thing alive, there would be several pros and cons about this. For one, it would suck because I love eating strawberries and if they were the smartest things, I couldn't eat them. But of course I would have several of them as pets and I would make them do my homework and I would take them for walks and feed them strawberry jam. lol
ReplyDeleteIs it better to leave or be left, to follow and simply fall behind, success is for the chosen few and I am not apart of that group.
ReplyDeleteI got my permit on Monday. I've drove everyday since then. When I was 11, my mom let me back her car (now my car) out of the driveway and i forgot to turn the wheel and hit my sister. She broke her leg and I felt bad, but Mother says I am a much better driver since then. Monday, I drove on basically all the backroads so my mom could pick up junk that she thinks we need, but we don't. Tuesday, I did the same thing. Yesterday, I drove to my grandma's, then to my interview, and then my dad to the store. When I got to the store, I tapped to brakes to pull in. The car sputtered and jerked, but I made it in the parking lot and parking easily. Father told me to leave the car running (because he's a mechanic and knows everything about cars) and he went into the store. When he came back, he told me to hit the gas. I hit the gas and the car died. The car wouldn't start again. Eventually we got it started and I had to go like 90 just to get it home before it died. SUCCESS. ReplyDeleteSo today I was being stupid and hitting my head on the locker when someone came up and actually pushed my head on the edge of the locker. It hurt like a cracker and I now have a headache even though it was funny.
